The taro plant is a minor tuber plant that can be used as a food crop and is a type of monocot plant that is often cultivated in tropical areas. The fungus Candida albicans is a normal flora that is mostly found on the skin, mucous membranes, oral cavity, digestive tract, respiratory tract. One approach that is considered effective for testing the antifungal activity of taro leaf extract against Candida albicans. This article aims to review the role and potential antifungal activity of taro leaf extract against Candida albicans. The method used is a literature review which includes various relevant research and policy documents. The results show that the taro plant is a plant that has potential as a herbal medicine because it contains secondary metabolite compounds. Apart from flavonoids, the taro plant also contains saponins, alkaloids, aanines and steroids. In addition, an ideal antifungal must inhibit the growth of fungi (fungistatic) and kill fungi (fungicide). Topical drugs used to treat candidiasis are Ketoconazole, Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Nystatin, and others. In conclusion, the antifungal activity of taro leaf extract is very important to create a sustainable inhibitor of the growth of the Candida albicans fungus that is relevant to the social-ecological context.
